Eiken Grade Pre-2 speaking practice. Everything you say is below, in order. The student has the passage and the pictures on their own card.
Before the questionsSTEPS 1–2
- 1Give the student 20 seconds to read silently.Say“Please read the passage silently for 20 seconds.”
- Wait 20 seconds, then tell the student the time is up.
- 2Have the student read the passage aloud.Say“Now, please read it aloud, starting from the title.”
- Then read the same passage aloud yourself, so the student hears a model.
Step 3 · The five questionsREAD EACH ONE ALOUD
- 1Say“According to the passage, why do people want to get the best health care for their pets?”
- 2Say“Now, please look at the people in Picture A. They are doing different things. Tell me as much as you can about what they are doing.”Then describe the picture yourself, so the student hears a model.
- 3Say“Now, look at the woman in Picture B. Please describe the situation.”Then describe the situation yourself, so the student hears a model.Say“Now, please turn the card over and put it down.”The student now answers without looking at the card.
- 4Say“Do you think having a pet is a good idea?”Yes → Why? / No → Why not?Then answer the same question yourself, and say why.
- 5Say“These days, more people are reading electronic books. Do you read electronic books?”Yes → Please tell me more. / No → Why not?Then answer the same question yourself, and say why.
ThroughoutSCORING
- Push for a complete sentence, with both a subject and a verb.
- Ask "why" every time, even when the student answers yes or no.
- Point out pronunciation mistakes right after that question, not at the end.
- Wait through pauses. Let the student finish the thought.

Remember · 答え方の約束
- 主語と動詞のある文で答える。単語だけで通じても、得点にはならない。
- なぜそう思うのかを言えないと点にならない。理由をひとつ足す。
- 発音の直しはその場でもらう。まとめて最後に聞いても直せない。
- 多少間が空いてもいい。思っていることを何とか伝えようとする方が大事。
